چکیده

Background Myocardial edema is usually assessed by T2W Turbo Spin Echo (TSE), using either Triple Inversion Recovery (STIR) or Double Inversion Recovery (DIR) with spectral fat saturation. Both TSE sequences have important drawbacks, such as low SNR when using the body coil, dropout of the lateral wall signal and use of semi-quantitative analysis by computing the ratio of myocardial to skeletal muscle signal intensity. We aimed to test a newly developed SSFP-based bright blood sequence that uses surface coils and quantifies myocardial T2 times on a pixel-by-pixel basis (T2 mapping).

A novel analytical approach to quantitative myocardial edema imaging in acute myocarditis using T2-mapping

Methods CMR data of 35 patients with clinically suspected ACM and confirmation of diagnosis by CMR according to the Lake Louise criteria (LL criteria) were retrospectively analyzed. 30 healthy volunteers (HV) served as a control. A second cohort consisting of 72 patients with clinically diagnosed ACM served as a validation cohort. All patients and HV were examined on a clinical 1.5T scanner, wh...

Quantitative Detection of Myocardial Edema using a Breath-hold T2 Mapping Pulse Sequence

Introduction: An inflammatory response to various diseases, including acute myocardial ischemia, cardiac transplantation rejection and acute myocarditis, results in water accumulation in the myocardium. Excess water accumulation results in myocardial edema, which can lead to various conditions including myocardial stiffness, diastolic dysfunction, and tissue swelling [1]. Current methods for di...

Gradient Spin Echo (GraSE) imaging for fast myocardial T2 mapping

BACKGROUND Quantitative Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) techniques have gained high interest in CMR research. Myocardial T2 mapping is thought to be helpful in diagnosis of acute myocardial conditions associated with myocardial edema. In this study we aimed to establish a technique for myocardial T2 mapping based on gradient-spin-echo (GraSE) imaging. METHODS The local ethics committe...

Native T1-mapping detects the location, extent and patterns of acute myocarditis without the need for gadolinium contrast agents

BACKGROUND Acute myocarditis can be diagnosed on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) using multiple techniques, including late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging, which requires contrast administration. Native T1-mapping is significantly more sensitive than LGE and conventional T2-weighted (T2W) imaging in detecting myocarditis. The aims of this study were to demonstrate how to display th...

T2 quantification for improved detection of myocardial edema

BACKGROUND T2-Weighted (T2W) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pulse sequences have been used to detect edema in patients with acute myocardial infarction and differentiate acute from chronic infarction. T2W sequences have suffered from several problems including (i) signal intensity variability caused by phased array coils, (ii) high signal from slow moving ventricular chamber blood that can mi...
